By Paul Roberts:
I joined the RAF in 1959 as an Air Radar Mechanic, having had a passion
for aeroplanes for a long time.
My first posting after my mechanics course at RAF Yatesbury was, much to
my surprise and later delight, 1113 MCU Porth-y Felin House Holyhead. I
had a cracking 18 months there. I was then posted to Aden, where I tried
my best to get onto the Shackleton Squadron but I was informed that
because of my previous experience on Marine Craft, I was posted to the
MCU at Raf Khormaksar for 2 years.
Demobbed in 1971 at 30 MU RAF Sealand. Then back there again as a
civilian. Retired from there in 2001.
Part of the crew of HMAFV 2767 that recovered a seriously ill crewman from SS THRASYVOULOS, 15 miles off ADEN. He made a full recovery in hospital in Steamer Point. Taken on 23/07/1962.
