Ramsgate

Thanks to Vic Young, who lives in the town, the ASR plaque on the wall of the Royal Oak Hotel has been cleaned and polished. The hotel was the former WW2 crew billet.

Berwick on Tweed

Club member Donald Smith is pleased to report that on the 23rd August 2010 a plaque was presented to the Mayor, Councillor Jenifer Waterhouse by Chief Technician Peter Wilton of the ATC. The Mayor was pleased to receive the plaque on behalf of the people of the town, on the 23rd. August 2010. The ASR base was located at the old jetty next to the Carr Rock, and after the war was turned into a holiday camp. Unfortunately no trace of it now remains.

Northern Ireland

Watson Inness who served as a W/Op on No 56 ASRU Portaferry has been in contact with the Newtonards Branch of RAFA with a view to negotiating with the RNLI to display plaques commemorating No 56 ASRU & No 57 ASRU Donaghadee on their respective boathouses. Things are moving in a positive direction and as soon as confirmation is received we will post the information on this website.

Pembroke Dock

Cliff Burkett, along with other members of the Club, presented a plaque to the Pembroke Dock Museum on Saturday 16th June 2007. At the same time he made a loan from his personal collection of a Received Type R1082 – Very Pistol ( Disarmed) -Signalling Lamp (not the usual Alldis Type) and an ‘Assault Ration Type B’ (issued to him on D-Day minus 1 still unopened). Must have survived on Bully Beef sandwiches and a mug of cocoa! Thank you Cliff.

Exmouth

Harry Field, a sometime 1st Cox on No 38 ASRU Exmouth during WWII, proposed that a plaque be displayed in the town to commemorate its existence. The Exmouth Branch of RAFA have kindly taken on the task and have arranged with the Exmouth RAFA Club to exhibit the plaque in their premises. The acceptance ceremony will take place at 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm on Thursday 23rd August 2007 at the RAFA Club Exmouth, when the Lady Mayoress of Exmouth will accept the plaque on behalf of the Town. After the ceremony, all will be invited to a reception in the Club. Those ASR/MCS Club members who live in and around the town have had a private invitation. However, all members near and far are invited to join in with their comrades. In order to organise the catering for the numbers who will attend.
